Santa Cruz Beach — Semana Santa
March 23, 2008Huatulco is a popular tourist destination for MEXICAN tourists as is clearly evident this Easter (Semana Santa) holiday. As “Genuine Tourists” we “booked” it out to Santa Cruz to get a look at the ocean since our visit to the area in February of 2007. It would be an understatment to say we were “startled” by how filled the beach was with visitors. You can see for yourself in the following photos.
A popular activity, particularly with the young people, appeared to be riding the “Bananna Boats,” which to us seemed like something fairly new to Huatulco.
Or better yet, perhaps you would like to go ”out to sea” along with them by clicking on the next “Youtube” video.
Video of Bananna Boat just a click away –
Santa Cruz beach was not the only busy beach, of course. We went to the “newest” of two beach clubs on Chahue Beach and saw a similar crowd of “Genuine Tourists.” Here are a two photos of the “action” at this popular location.
The “old beach club” had the “Corona Girls” performing, much like the scene in Cancun, but “mi espousa” was not very encouraging of me capturing the moment on “film,” and even less supportive about using video! So, here is a photo of a girl trying to make it to the top of a climbing wall at the “new” beach club.
Check this blog from time to time, please, as more posts are added in the days ahead by this “Genuine Tourist” in Huatulco, Mexico.
Stephen and Patricia, also posting at — http://groups.yahoo.com/group/huatulco/

Hello Stephen and Patricia, My husband and I were surprised to see these quiet beaches we adore so filled with tourists, also. Huatulco is our favourite area of Mexico and hopefully in a few years we might be able to retire there for a few months. We need to understand that this Huatulco belongs to these wonderful people. it was nice to see them enjoy it to the fullest. Thanks Dan and Jill Psutka PS We follow your group and love to read anything about Mexico… Thanks
Hell Dan and Jill,
I am sorry I didn’t see your message earlier. I will do better at checking for comments in the future.
Last night on the “food channel” we caught a special about Mexican food which featured Huatulco, Oaxaca, Mexico City, and another city for Amadillo meat on the Isthmus. Apparently, the Mariner in La Crucecita is THE place to eat octopus.
Thanks again for the feedback.
It is nice of you to post your trip to Huatulco and all the pics are cool!
I am originally from Oaxaca and I reside in, CA .and the only
thing I don’t get is what do you mean by “Genuine Tourists”.But,I find it kind of
“offensive”
Hello Ruben,
Thanks for the feedback regarding my photos of Santa Cruz.
The phrase “Genuine Tourist” is meant to describe ME because I am very limited regarding Mexican cultural and the languages, although I am trying to learn. Since we only visit Mexico for short periods and do not live anywhere for more than a few weeks, we are not even “expats” and do not share in their more extensive experience with the culture. My wife and I are simply travelers who “genuinely” love the country but are simply “tourists” when we visit because of our limited expertise.
Thanks again and please visit again this site. We are “visiting” Mexico from January 22nd thru April 30th in 2009. However, we will probably spend most of our time in Tlaxcala and Veracruz (Xalapa).
